Topic - Maybe it’s not a beautiful day in the neighborhood

In previous decades, we knew everyone on our street and most everybody in our neighborhood.  We’d get together for holidays and cook-outs.  Now, 75% of us don’t consider neighbors to even be acquaintances.  We might as well be living next to an empty house because we actually see our neighbors less than once a month.  We can’t name a single person from our block and we’re just fine with that.  While country folks are more familiar with their neighbors than those living in towns and cities, many of us still belong to a neighborhood watch group.  We may not be friendly, but we’ll still help you.  We’ll feed your cat and take out your trash when you’re away.  We’ll even go food shopping for you and water your plants.  Amazingly, we might share our lottery winnings with you!  If we’re locked out or need a tool, we’ll come knocking on your door.  But, for the most part, keep to yourselves.  Good fences make for good neighbors, you know.
