Topic - Will your expectations of a movie make or break it?
Waiting for weeks for that next installment of your favorite movie franchise? Think you’re gonna love it? Hate it? If you want to enjoy it, you need to temper your expectations. Your expectations before you see it have a huge effect on whether you loathe it or love it. If you’re expecting to hate it, you probably will. If you expect it to be the best movie in history, chances are, you’ll be disappointed. How does this happen? It’s the brain’s negativity bias that makes you go in with low expectations. We’re wired to look for the negative things because they might be a threat. This means that even if you’re pleasantly surprised by the movie, you still won’t like it as much as you’d hoped. If you go in with excitement, you’re sure to say it wasn’t as good as you thought it would be. Let’s face it, we need to take things as they come. We’re not good at predicting how future events will make us feel. Withhold your judgment and temper your expectations.
