Topic - Going Away to College. When kids go away to college, a “necessary loss” phenomenon may occur.
A “necessary loss” is basically the trade-off for growth such as when the child is separated from the placenta. Going to college is actually the “birth of the adult”.
It is said that if your teen goes away to college “mad”, she’ll make a better adjustment than if she goes away “sad”.
Tina is likely to start fights over anything and her anger is a combination of anxiety and excitement. She’s coming out of her skin with the prospect of a new and exciting life.
Tina may also be sad that part of her early homelife is drawing to a close and she’s struggling with those sad looks she gets from you. So, if she snaps at you, remember how she clung to your leg the first day of kindergarten. You’re now seeing the “adult” version of that day.
Have confidence in her and you to make the adjustment and tell her so. It’s just the circle of life comin’ around again.
