But, honey, I still worry about you.
Are you the parents of adult children? Still stressing about them? You’re not alone. Many of us worry as much about our kids now as we did when they were younger. Being a parent is an intensely powerful event. The fact that we’re wired to protect our kids means that this is to be expected, yet society tells us “18 and out”! Not so fast. We continue to provide financial and emotional support along with the worry. When mothers worry, the fathers sleep better. When the fathers worry, the mothers still don’t sleep. Fathers stress over giving support and mothers stress over the reasons for kids needing help. Some of this involvement is left over from the intense parenting years and some of it is due to the digital age where we parents can see more of what’s going on in our kids’ lives. Parents, you might need help to learn how to manage the stress you feel for your kids.
