Topic of Discussion: Anthropology, Plantains, Starting a food business
Meet Rachel Laryea
She is our first guest on Season 2. She is a doctoral student in the joint degree program in Anthropology and African American Studies. In 2016, she received a B.A., summa cum laude, in Social and Cultural Analysis from New York University. Prior to starting the program, she was an analyst at Goldman Sachs & Co. in their Corporate Services & Real Estate Division, working within the firm’s Environmental, Social & Governance group. More broadly, her research interests encompass questions of community and racial formation, subversion, and the impacts and controls of capitalistic processes within Black populations. She is also a Ghanaian entrepreneur living in Brooklyn, studying at Yale, and loving plantains wherever, whenever.
She incorporates Latin, Caribbean, South Asian (among others!) culinary techniques into many plantain creations including her staple ice cream!
