The Appeal co-host Neima Abdulahi sat down with Atlanta hip-hop music star 24Heavy to discuss his music, the importance of mental health, and how he’s been able to navigate through the hardships in his life.
“I’ve been in the rap game since I was 12.” 24Heavy shares how his music career has been a long and challenging journey. The first time he hit the studio was at the age of 14. During his teenage years, 24Heavy was growing up in the same neighborhood as Dae Dae, Ralo, Young Thug, and more.
“The majority of my music will show you my pain, because of what I’ve been through.” 24Heavy’s music is full of melodies with reflective lyrics. A rough upbringing caused 24Heavy to spend some time incarcerated.
“I fell in love with music when I was incarcerated.” 24Heavy expressed how music was all he had to keep his mind healthy. While he was locked up, 24Heavy began to really enjoy the art of songwriting.
24Heavy says he has a joint label agreement with Quality Control and Never Eat Alone. He says both brands are helping him reach new audiences by taking his gift to another level.
24Heavy shares some of his favorite influences in the Atlanta music scene: “Andre 3000 made it cool to be yourself before Young Thug did.” The rap star reveals that some of his favorite music verses come from Andre 3000. In addition to that, he mentions how Young Thug is influencing the younger generation of Atlanta.
