Pioneering hip-hop music executive Big Block of Block Entertainment sits down with co-hosts Neima Abdulahi and Brii Renee for The Appeal Unfiltered to talk about the current state of the industry, his beloved friendship with the legend Tupac, and his efforts to rebuild hip-hop Block by Block.

Big Block was born in Los Angeles and proudly grew up in Atlanta. At the early stages of his career, Block says he learned life lessons the hard way and had to find manhood through trials and tribulations.

He describes his relationship with Tupac as like a family. “I’d drive Pac’s mom to the store, his sisters stayed at my house, and they even watched my daughter at one point.”  Moreover, it was Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur that would help Big Block get into the music business by introducing him to executives.

Big Block says that today’s hip-hop is missing leadership within the artists. In addition to that, he doesn’t like to get involved with the hype of social media. “The culture now is Instagram, but in my day real gangsters would snatch you up and send you to your momma’s house”, said Block.

Big Block has a campaign called Don’t Go To Prison for the youth. The goal of the campaign is to educate the youth on how to be successful by any means. Block mentions how he built a multimillion-dollar studio in the hood to stay connected to the community.
