Neima Abdulahi and Brii Renee of The Appeal Unfiltered sit down with Nigerian superstar Diddi Emah, who is a powerhouse singer, actress, and dancer with a solid hip-hop, classical ballet, modern, jazz, west African dance and advance baton twirling background.
She has performed on numerous award shows, tours, music videos, live talk shows, featured films and was also a principal actor in a national KFC commercial. At just 15 years old, Diddi was scouted and signed to an Atlanta based agency. But since she was unable to secure many dance jobs due to her age, she turned her focus to choreography.
One-year shy of graduating college, Diddi made a bold decision to quit school and pursue her passion full-time. Given her unique dance style, Diddi was highly sought after and she shortly received the coveted offer to be a part of the Black Eyed Peas and Ludacris Tour. Although Diddi’s family frowned at this opportunity and her dream to become a fulltime dancer and choreographer, yet she persisted and followed her dream. She joined her first on-the-road tour and performed on 34 stages in 34 cities, all in 2 months. Not only was she dancing on tour, but she also did TV and live performances for Ludacris’ then-new single, “How Low Can You Go,” and spirit, Conjure Cognac. Within her first month, Diddi made $15k after deciding to make dance a full-time career choice.
As Diddi’s success as a dancer, performer, and choreographer rose, she continued to work with various A-List artists. This spicy Nigerian native has not only performed alongside celebrities such as Beyoncé, and international Afro-Beat artists, Davido, Wande Coal and MC Galaxy, but she has also choreographed and danced for numerous artists including Beyonce, Usher, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliott, Davido, Fifth Harmony, Nicole Scherzinger, Ciara, Ludacris, Nelly, Keri Hilson, Chaka Khan, ELDEE, Future, T.L.C., Tinashe, Jill Scott and many more. Additionally, on the network side of things, Diddi was the co-choreographer for the FOX TV hit series, Star, in its first couple seasons.
In pursuit of her own artistry, Diddi has a generated a sound that speaks to both her African roots and her American way of life.
