Description

As we start the new year with all the good intentions and new year's resolutions, I thought I would do an episode where I discuss what makes us follow through vs giving up on our intentions.

All our goals and dreams start with a desire, a want.

But that desire on its own is not enough for us to be prepared to stay focused on our goals.

The second element that we need to stay on track is the belief. The belief in ourselves. The belief that we can handle any emotions that will overwhelm us at the first difficulty.

And to create and nurture that belief what we need is to be committed to our goals and ourselves. Have our own back when things get difficult, when people and situations and other options try to distract us from our goal.

Commitment exists when we have a compelling reason, a deep why connected to the goal. So this is where we want to be honest with ourselves and spend time looking inside ourselves and find our reason to want what we want.

Because if that compelling reason is not strong, then there is good chances that we won't be staying focused on our goals.

You don't have a strong why? great, then don't set that goal.

I believe it is worse in the relationship with ourselves, to set a goal and give up, rather than being honest at the get-go and just say "actually, I don't want that so badly".

And that is ok.
