Description

My neighbor since 1991, Pete Corrao was born in San Diego, California on November 3, 1925.
Just 3 months before graduating high school, he was drafted and never received
his diploma. On the afternoon of December 7, 1941, he was attending a
football game at Balboa Stadium when it was announced that Pearl Harbor
had been attacked. He attended boot camp in San Diego and went
on to radio school. Pete served on ships throughout the Pacific,
spending three weeks in Hawaii and then to Eniwetok in the Marshall
Islands.
Pete was serving on Eniwetok atoll when the bomb was
dropped over Japan to end the war. He was discharged in March, 1946,
serving 2 years in the US Navy. After the war, he returned to
San Diego and became a commercial fisherman and then managed a grocery
store where he worked with his wife. Pete passed away not long after this podcast. Thank you Pete For your service to this country and for sharing your story with all of us.
