St. Faustina, a Polish mystic from the twentieth century, wrote about the Divine Mercy chaplet in her Diary. It was revealed to her in the apparitions she had of Jesus Christ. The prayer “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world” is the core of the chaplet. It is a prayer that calls us to be attentive to the great mercy God has for all people seen in the death and resurrection of his Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this prayer as a means of strength to be able to proclaim the depths of God’s mercy in order to practice the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
