We’re taught from a young age that negative feelings and emotions are bad. That we are supposed to push them aside. That happiness is a way of life and it’s normal. That she looks happy over there in her life, so why not try it on for ourselves. The billionaire over here seems happy with his job, so maybe I’ll see what happens. I believe this to be partly true. In our culture, whether we read a self-help book, see an anxiety or depression medication ad on tv, or hear from an expert—there is always someone or something out there that promises to make us happy again.
