Description

On this episode of The Power of Love Show we welcome special guest, Cara Belvin.

Cara Belvin is a social entrepreneur known for her role as Founder and CEO of empowerHER, a nonprofit organization for children and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent.

Cara is an energetic and visionary leader and has expanded empowerHER from a local grassroots movement to an international nonprofit.

Inspired by the loss of her own mother, Kit, at the age of 9, Cara formed empowerHER in 2013 to support and connect girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mothers.

Today, the organization serves boys, girls and nonbinary youth in a non-therapeutic, community-based, volunteer-driven model with one mission, two programs—events and 1:1 mentorship. All programs are free of charge to the family and strive to help teach the girls that loss is survivable.

Cara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and a Masters of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University.

Cara began her career as a School Psychologist working with children with disabilities and transitioned her career into nonprofit management and philanthropy.

Cara frequently presents on issues surrounding adversity, grief and loss, women’s empowerment, and social entrepreneurship.

As the founder of the only nonprofit in the world dedicated to mentoring children who have experience the loss of a parent, Cara’s efforts have been featured on The Today Show, CNN, PBS NewsHour with Judy Woodruff, and more.  Cara is also the lead producer of HBO’s The Conversation: Stories that Matter.
