In this episode we interview Dr. Joe Perkins an IU Health Family Medicine physician with Sports Medicine fellowship training. He enlightens us on the fact that this musculoskeletal knowledge is useful not just for athletic injuries but also for industrial based repetitive use injury, weekend warrior activity based injuries, and degenerative and aging changes that impair how we move and function. We talk about the critical relationship between Sports physicians and athletic trainers and physical therapists and how they can interface to provide best care. There are guidelines discussed about measures "athletes" can do to help themselves and indications for when they should see a physician for more thorough evaluation and devising a treatment plan. Finally we talk briefly about the use of Ultrasound as a diagnostic and treatment guidance tool.
