CBD aka Cannabidiol is one of over 100 cannabinoids present in Cannabis.

CBD & THC are the 2 most common Cannabinoids that people know about.

THC being a psychoactive Cannabinoid and CBD being a non psychoactive Cannabinoid.

Along with CBD & THC there are 481 other identifiable chemical components known to exist in the cannabis plant, including terpenes.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants, though many people commonly associate them with cannabis because cannabis plants contain high concentrations of them.

For CBD to be legal in the UK it must be derived from hemp, contain less than 0.2% THC and any products must clearly state the amount of CBD in mg on the packaging.

If a product doesn't show this, DON'T spend your money on it.

There are 3 different types of CBD that you may see on the market.

Isolate - This is CBD isolated from the other compounds found in the cannabis plant.

Full Spectrum - This is CBD along with the other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

Broad Spectrum - This is CBD with the other compounds but with THC removed.

You may see these types of CBD in all kinds of different products such as...

  1. Pure oil
  2. Tinctures
  3. Creams
  4. Balms
  5. Bath Bombs
  6. Soap
  7. Haircare
  8. Skincare
  9. E-liquids
  10. Tea & Coffee
  11. Chocolate
  12. Lollipops
  13. Soft drinks

and many, many more. The list is endless.

In order to make these products, CBD & other cannabinoids must be separated from the plant matter. This can be done in a few different ways with one of the most common being the C02 extraction method.

CO2 extraction is a process that uses pressurized carbon dioxide to pull the desired phytochemicals from a plant. In the world of cannabis, the process pulls all of the essential cannabinoids, terpene oils and waxes out of the plant material.

How does CBD Work?

CBD works alongside our endocannabinoid system to aid better health and wellness.

The endocannabinoid system is a complex cell signalling system found throughout the brains and nervous systems of all mammals.

Endocannabinoids and the receptors they bind to exist in

  1. The brain
  2. The nervous system
  3. Glands
  4. Immune cells
  5. Organs
  6. Connective tissues

The ECS works to balance vital functions, affecting everything from;

  1. Sleep
  2. Appetite
  3. Inflammation
  4. Pain
  5. Memory
  6. Mood
  7. Reproduction

In summary Cannabinoids and The ECS are like a lock & key, made for each other.
