At the age of 20 in 1838, Frederick Douglass escaped being enslaved in Maryland to start his new life in New York and Massachusetts as an abolitionist, author, and orator. He inspired thousands of Northern abolitionists both Euro- and Afro-American alike to press for policies of getting rid of slavery in America. He provided important counsel to President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War aiding the North's efforts to enlist former slaves into the Union Army to gain victory over Slavery. Not only was he a leader for civil and human rights, but he also campaigned for women's rights too. Frederick Douglass proceeded to marry a Euro-American woman, Helen Pitts, after his first wife passed away, stirring up controversy at the time, 1884. Frederick Douglass was an American hero who advanced social integrity to benefit all Americans. The Eagle Hoss & Hound podcast is a platform for respect.
