Description

Throughout high school I did all the manual arts classes I could as I enjoyed it and was good at it, it also boosted my confidence as I didn’t do so well at Home Economics.

But my first real glimpse into a future in construction, was as I grew up. My Mother worked in a quarry driving frontend loaders and soil testing showing me anything was possible.

After my pre-apprenticeship course (which I aced) I still didn’t have an apprenticeship to roll into when all the guys had multiple option before finishing their pre-apprenticeship course. This was the first major hurdle I face in the industry, no one willing to hire an adult female apprentice.

I made many calls, sent in many applications, and even offered a day’s free labour just to get a foot in the door, then finally was offered two apprenticeships on the same day within an hour of each other. I chose to go with Q-Build and guarantee my 4 years.

Since completing my apprenticeship, I have worked in a variety of roles where I have learnt a variety of skills along the way.
