This week we discuss Tōson Shimazaki's Broken Commandment. This is the story of Ushimatsu Segawa who is a member of the oppressed minority group the eta. Segawa's father separated his family from the local eta community to give his son a chance to make a life for himself and gave Segawa a commandment to never reveal his ethnic origins.
To live authentically or to live by your father's commandment - that is the question.
