This week we are joined by friend and authentic Southern Lawyer Legalman of the Quash podcast to discuss a historic southern criminal trial most infamous: The Murder of Mary Phagan in 1913. This vile crime, bitter criminal trial and the subsequent lynching of the convicted killer, Leo Frank, after the commutation of his death sentence by the Governor of Georgia led to the formation of the Anti-Defamation league and created the myth of widespread anti-semitism in the United States of America. Was Frank guilty or, as the Anti-Defamation League asserts, was the perpetrator the barely literate black janitor Jim Conley? What repercussions has this sordid affair had on race relations and federal law enforcement practices even still today?
