This show features local Denver comedians in a space where they can say whatever they want, and we are not a success until we have someone lose their job at SNL. This week on the podcast we have the owner and defender of The Fort, David Rodriguez. The Fort is Northern Colorado's Best (only) Comedy Club, An intimate comedy theater with a full bar, right in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins! We open this episode with Dylan and David talking about parenting in the modern age, this history of The Fort venue before it was a comedy club and David explains how he created/set up the space to be best for comedy. We discuss the Fort Collins scene, a few favorite headliners in the club since its birth and David tells his Mick Foley story for the first time on a podcast. Favorite conspiracy leads to Dylan learning Evan's real name, and how/why David was kicked out of a Ska concert. David talks about the lessons he has learned throughout the years as a comedy show booker, and the struggle of weighing the two sides of creating a fun and welcoming space, while also making a profit as a business owner. Making decisions for the audience, over profits. Evan brings up David's love for defending The Fort by confronting bad reviews publicly online and that goes into David explaining the process of creating his comedy album at The Fort, on his birthday, in the room he founded, surrounded by friends and family. This episode ends with a great Eddie Pepitone story and David giving a small insight into how anyone can figure out where they stand with the club as a comic. The Fort has a ladder to climb, the end of the episode has this ladder spelt out for anyone interested. Throughout the show, we break down jokes, tell stories from the local scene and discuss all of the important things happening all around the world. The hosts Evan Fitzgerald and Dylan Kantor thank our guests for coming by the studio and appreciate every listen and share!
