Description

Ever thought about what you eat, struggled with your weight or wanted to know more about nutrition?

In this episode we had the opportunity to sit down with Fatimah Fakhoury a Registered Dietitian providing virtual nutrition coaching services to people living with paralysis and spinal cord injury. She was inspired by her husband, who was injured in a car accident many years ago, to focus on providing nutrition services specifically to people living with paralysis, who are often left out of popular wellness culture.

Fatimah empowers people living with paralysis to manage their weight and improve their bowel health by providing support to make healthier choices, without restrictive dieting.

By combining her professional expertise as a dietitian with her personal experience of being married to someone living with a spinal cord injury, her coaching program has allowed people with paralysis to regain control of their weight and bowel issues so they can feel more confident and live longer, happier lives.

Some of the topics we cover are:

Why is nutrition important after a spinal cord injury or paralysis?

Does the interpretation of Body mass index change after SCI?

Do the Calorie needs change after SCI?

What is the para belly and does it mean I’m obese?

Are there any specific recommendations for using nutrition to aid in the healing of pressure sores?

“I’m new to this whole nutrition thing. Where do I start?”
