When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States, everyone was in a state of confusion and fear. The pandemic was all over every form of media, but one thing that wasn’t being talked about was how the pandemic was spreading in prisons and jails across the country. When I first looked into it, I saw that the spread of Covid in these facilities was much higher. Incarcerated people were much more like to contract the disease and more likely to become seriously ill if they did. I knew this was a story that I need to tell. I knew that more people needed to be aware of how vulnerable incarcerated people were so that their voices did not go unheard. That was my object of the piece. The intended audience was anyone that would listen, but specifically, those that may have family or friends in jail or prison.
