Sunshine Cowan is the Assistant Dean in the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) and the University College, where she works on the new Quality Initiative for the university. Sunshine has a deep commitment to health literacy.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in in Community Health from University of Central Oklahoma in 2000
- MPH in Health Promotion Science from the University of Oklahoma in 2002
- Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in Environmental Science with a focus on environmental justice in 2009.
Experiences:
- Muscular Dystrophy Association 1999-2002
- Health Educator and YRBS Coordinator at the Oklahoma Department of Education 2002-2004
- Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) where she co-coordinated the Public Health program 2004-2021 (17 years)

- Founding board member of the Oklahoma Health Equity Network (OHEN)
- Past President of the Oklahoma Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD)
- Former President of the Oklahoma Public Health Association (OPHA).
- Current Health VP Elect for Southern Tier Region (NAHPL)
