Week 8 | The Sermon on the Mount (1995)
This week on the podcast, we’re in Week 8 of a 6-month series on the Sermon on the Mount. In today's episode, Darrell examines the eighth beatitude, where Jesus declares, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Darrell begins by noting that this is the only "double beatitude" in the set, with Jesus repeating it. He suggests this may be because it's the one we most don't want to hear. Darrell explores why Jesus would "congratulate" being persecuted, noting that it is a mark of those who have truly embraced the gospel. He examines how Jesus' perfect righteousness and his bold claims about Himself led to his own persecution. Finally, Darrell encourages us that while persecution may be difficult, Jesus calls His disciples to rejoice, knowing that the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
