In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing SUMMERLAND (2020), which is currently streaming on Netflix. The film, written and directed by Jessica Swale, the story follows Alice (Gemma Arterton) who during the Nazi blitz on London during World War II, is visited and has a young boy placed in her care. Fiercely solitary and reluctant to accept the young evacuee, Frank (Lucas Bond), she soon softens and is won over by the kind-hearted boy. As we get closer to the end of the story, the reason for her getting Frank is revealed and the past comes at Alice fast. As we close out the month of Pride, this is a family friendly film that can open up discussion and we highly recommend it. The film has a run time of 1 h 39 m, and is rated PG. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
