On the seventeenth night of our #31DaysToHalloween the Mister joins me in reviewing SUSPIRIA (2018), directed by Luca Guadagnino, from a script by David Kajganich and characters by Dario Argento and Daria Nicolodi. Set in 1977 Berlin amidst political turmoil, young American dancer, Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson) joins the prestigious Markos Dance Academy, unaware it is a front for a coven of witches divided over their secretive and sickly leader. As students disappear and Susie rises in rank under the influential Madame Blanc (Tilda Swinton), fellow dancer Sara (Mia Goth) and an elderly psychotherapist uncover the academy's terrifying rituals of sacrifice and power. In a shocking, bloody finale, Susie reveals herself as the true ancient witch, Mother Suspiriorum, claiming leadership of the coven and purging the false pretenders. The film clocks in at 2 h and 32 m, is rated R and we caught the film on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
