In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing THE BAD GUYS (2022) which is currently streaming on Peacock but also for buy/rent on Prime. The film, with screenplay credits to Etan Cohen, Yoni Brenner and Hilary Winston, from the books by Aaron Blabey, is directed by Pierre Perifel. The story follows a gang that fakes being reformed to get out of doing jail time but along the way, their leader, Wolf (the always fabulous Sam Rockwell) discovers that he likes being good. With a great voice ensemble that includes some voices you might not expect like Marc Maron (Snake), Zazie Beetz (Diane Foxington), Craig Robinson (Shark), Anthony Ramos (Piranha) but also some great standards like Awkwafina (Tarantula), Alex Borstein (Police Chief Misty) and Richard Ayoade (Professor Marmalade). Definitely a kids film but with a lot of heart, great messaging and production and smart, strong writing - its an absolute treat for adults too. The film has a run time of 1 h 40 m, and is rated PG.
