Caiaphas was a Sadducee and the they were a group loyal to Herod and the Romans. This religious group had their roots in Antiochus IV Epiphanes and were Hellenist. They did not believe in the resurrection from the dead, the spiritual world, Heaven, Hell and so they were similar to the Atheists of today.
