In this episode, I chat with Dr. Rukhsana Mirza MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Medical Education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. We discuss her path to the field of ophthalmology and medical retina, her take on the effects COVID-19 has had on prospective applicants for residency in ophthalmology, what she herself looks for in applicants, and how to make an application stand out. Dr. Mirza is a renowned leader in medical education within ophthalmology. In 2016, she was awarded by the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology the "Excellence in Medical Student Education Award". Dr. Mirza is a leader in the AUPO and has significantly contributed to the changes made to the residency application timeline and process due to COVID-19 by working with educators across the nation.
