Description

There is a natural inclination to not want to think about death. Most of us would rather live as if death is not a reality for us. But that is not really an option. Pretending as if we will never come to the day of our death will not prevent the day from coming, so instead we should live in view of that day. What we see in Ecclesiastes is that Solomon accepted the reality of death, and he saw the things in life, that we look to in order to bring fulfillment and purpose into our lives, through the lens of the reality of death. Doing this allowed him to see the reality of what we hope will bring us fulfillment. That in the end, we will die, and those things will be meaningless and have added nothing to our lives. Instead of looking to the temporary and fleeting things of this life, we must look to what eternally matters if we are going to live a life of fulfillment and purpose. We must look, then, to the glory of God.
