In the last section of 1 Peter, the Apostle Peter has commanded his readers to be holy as God is holy. Along with that Peter then called his readers to live in the fear of our Heavenly Father, and one of the reasons he gave for that is that these believers new the price that was side for their redemption, namely, the sacrifice of Christ. As we come to the next section not only are believers to pursuit holiness, to the extent that God is holy, but they are also to love each other, within the church, as family. Loving each other with a persistent (or fervent) love from a pure heart. Therefore, the logical conclusion of this is that Christians would put off the unloving sinfulness that remains in them. And putting off sinfulness, they are to desire God's Word, that sanctifies them, since they have experience God's goodness.
