Pharmacist Jay Gill interviews Dr. Bill Tyrrell, a veterinary cardiologist at CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets. Dr. Tyrrell tells us how heart disease presents differently in dogs and cats versus humans. Heart disease in cats and dogs can be due to cardiomyopathy, degenerative valve disease or be congenital. Unfortunately, the symptoms may be non-specific and vague. Dogs and cats might display trouble breathing, panting, an increase in tiredness, fainting, or coughing while at rest. While surgery is sometimes needed, most cases are controlled with medication, such as Pimobendan. Heart disease in pets is easier to manage if caught early. It is important to have yearly check ups with your primary care veterinarian. https://www.cvcavets.com/
