Description

When leaving a hotel, we might look around to make sure we haven’t forgotten anything. Then if we do forget something, we realize that we had literally been staring at it in the hotel room. We’d become accustomed to it in those days, so it appeared as part of the background.

Every waking moment, and many dreaming moments, we have the opportunity to look around ourselves with presence and awareness, drinking in the environment - perhaps even allowing things to surprise us.

This practice has great benefits beyond collecting our belongings in hotel rooms. Being aware of our surroundings alerts us to potential dangers, increasing our intuition and our discernment.
