In this interview, Juan explains his personal development formula for how he let go of the habit of smoking tobacco.
The formula goes something like this:
- Write a cost/benefit analysis for continuing the habit and quitting the habit, being honest with yourself about what you’re really getting from it and what you stand to gain
- Find information about the negatives of continuing, including watching documentaries that show graphic depictions of the problems of smoking
- Performing a ritual that is symbolic, that impacts the senses and is memorable
- Keeping track of success using a calendar and congratulating yourself for every day that you succeed, at least for 40 days
- Be strict with the habit - don’t make excuses. If you do smoke again, examine if you did it for a good reason or if you were just making an excuse
- Pick a specific date, and put your plan into action.
