Description

Many people have different conceptions of karma. A popular one is the “Santa Claus” idea that the universe keeps a list of good and bad actions, and returns them equally to you. Another conception is just of cause and effect - when you do bad things and hang around bad people, it’s natural the it will end up coming back to you.

Another idea is that karma exists in the moment. Whoever you are in this moment is likely to receive good or bad effects, just because of the way you’re being, the form guiding your actions in those moments.

If that is true, then perhaps a person could change in a moment, suddenly becoming good, letting go of whatever ill will they once held and now being pure. Now, it would be unfair to punish them for their past deeds, because they are no longer the person they once were.
