Title: Ezra Reads the Law

Nehemiah 8:1-18 describes a pivotal moment in Israel’s history when Ezra the scribe publicly reads the Book of the Law to the gathered people of Jerusalem. Standing on a wooden platform, he reads from morning until midday, and the people listen attentively, responding with reverence and worship. The Levites help interpret the law so everyone can understand its meaning. As they grasp the significance of God’s commands, the people initially weep, but Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites encourage them to rejoice, declaring that "the joy of the Lord is your strength." The chapter concludes with the Israelites rediscovering and celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles, marking a renewed commitment to God's word and His covenant.
