A meet is the prime opportunity to practice “PBA perspective”:
“ENJOY the PROCESS of PROGRESSION” and “TRUST THE PLAN”.
Developing a “growth mindset” seeing races as “opportunities”, not always to PR but to “EXPERIENCE” the joy that comes from the rush of pushing ourselves to our potential for the day.
^That’s a PR every time.
More specifically we have discussed three goals specifically for the ORU meet in respect to our current fitness level and preparations thus far:
1. THE PIPE DREAM GOAL (surfing metaphor) is the best case scenario. If your body fully responds to your effort and you “outperform yourself”, a sense of performing beyond yourself.
2. THE ATTAINABLE GOAL is effectively executing the fitness level and preparations thus far. A great performance that we can celebrate and learn from.
3. Worst case scenario but still a Great Sense of ACCOMPLISHMENT GOAL is when the body doesn’t respond to our effort and we find i it difficult to execute efficiently. Perhaps even an unhealthy response from our body we can’t control- a side ache, getting tripped up, over or under our optimal arousal state, etc. We can still celebrate the grit of persevering through the race, developing a deeper composure of being comfortable with being uncomfortable, and learn from the experience.
FEW THOUGHTS
Savor and reflect on specific applications from practices in preparation for this meet:
1️⃣. We practiced assessing our intervals and runs with how efficient, effective, and in the Flow we felt throughout each interval.
1-feels a little jary and inefficient.
2-feels smooth but have to really think about it.
3-feels smooth and don’t even have to think “in the FLOW”.
2️⃣. Practice breathing and Acknowledge levels of stiffness/function throughout the warmup. Focus on identifying areas (knees, hamstrings, back, shoulders) that could be released and move more freely to efficiently execute an in the “Flow-like” performance.
3️⃣. Embrace and Enjoy the whole meet experience: we get to hangout, run, warmup, race, and share all this with our running community. Embrace the rich relationships running so graciously provides us!
