The debate surrounding Universal Basic Income (UBI) has been around for years; but during the pandemic, the CERB has some Canadians asking if UBI implementation is now within reach. Is a basic income the best program to combat poverty, put more money in the pockets of Canadians, and boost the economy? With a Throne Speech coming, and a Liberal minority government looking to reset policy for economic recovery, proponents are calling this moment the time to act. Join current and former Senators supporting basic income as we discuss what lessons can be learn't from CERB, the pandemic, and how a future basic income could differ. Additionally, we will draw on April's letter from 50 Senators to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Finance Minister advocating for a basic income.
