Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here for their May TV retrospective. This time they’re talking about something a little more niche, Cardcaptor Sakura.
Cardcaptor Sakura is a fantasy anime based on the manga by Clamp. It premiered in Japan on April 7, 1998. Running for 70 episodes, the series ended on March 21, 2000. One of two English localizations, entitled Cardcaptors, ran on Kids’ WB and Toonami in the earlier 2000s.
Cardcaptor Sakura follows a ten-year-old girl named Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Tange), who must retrieve a collection of magical artifacts called the Clow Cards. Aiding Sakura are her friends Syaoran (Mokoto Kumai) and Tomoyo (Junko Iwao), as well as the Clow Card guardians Kero (Aya Hisakawa, Masaya Onosaka) and Yue (Megumi Ogata).
Cardcaptor Sakura received two movies as well as a sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, which is based on the manga of the same name.
Aaron and Josh discuss their exposure to the Kids’ WB dub before going into their thoughts on the series proper, covering the plot, characters, and animation.
