From sleeping on the floor when his family first moved to America to starting an official NFL flag football league within the community that embraced him, Arnold Smith’s story is nothing short of remarkable. Created in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2017, Arnold is the founder of the Eastern Iowa NFL Flag Football League (“League”), a competitive flag football league for kids from 1st to 8th grade. A dad himself, Arnold wanted to teach kids the fundamentals of flag football, teamwork and sportsmanship, and other critical values that will help shape their character. Originally from Sierra Leone, Arnold shares what it’s like to start from the bottom and to ultimately seize opportunities that enable him to give back.
In this episode, we also talk to Arnold about why establishing credibility was one of his biggest challenges as a founder, how he got his local community involved in growing his organization and what his future plans are for the League.
