Today on the show we have Josh Wentworth. Josh is the Owner and Head Coach of Apex MMA in Covington, Georgia. Josh is a BJJ Black Belt under Professor Casey Baynes.
This is an information dense episode, first and most fascinating to me we discuss what some consider to be the future of BJJ instruction, “the reverse classroom”. Josh gave me access to his student portal, in short, it's very impressive. The amount of work he has put into the curriculum is something to behold. The vast amount of videos he's recorded and the written detail of each technique that relates to said video must have taken a massive amount of time and effort to complete. It's fascinated to get a view of what he considers mandatory concepts to have down per belt and stripe via the various programs within his ActionNote setup.
Later we get into other topics such as the ice Creme cone grip popularized recently by friend of the show Charles Harriott, what is Brunch-jitsu, the belt rank system, the fallacy of winning in the gym, how to make the most of seminars and BJJ camps and more. Josh thought he was invited on the show just for his reverse classroom way of teaching but really I just liked the guy from the moment I met him. I gravitate towards people with a point of view, and Josh has a point of view about a great many things. I'm also fascinated by people who just practice Kaizen aka continuous improvement as a way of life, training, teaching, and business which Josh just seems to do by nature.
