To reduce pain you must rest and modify your training technique. I don't recommend resting too long otherwise you will lower your load pain threshold and may continue to have pain when you come back to working out or everyday functions. Overall it is a situation by situation case, but resting too long is a common misconception to the healing process.
You are trying to maintain your strength while making modifications to your routine. You aren't pushing the same way, but you are still being active! Finding ways to move pain free.
Having confidence in your approach, with the willingness to learn is key!
