Description

During our show this week, KPFK is continuing an urgent fund drive in order to survive what have been immensely challenging times for the station financially. We know that our listeners have also faced serious economic as well as other challenges not only during the COVID pandemic, but also in the wake of ongoing capitalist crises and restructuring and ever-growing inequity in our society. But there are few radio stations in California and nationally, even among the so-called liberal media from NPR to MSNBC, that seek to offer regular analysis and news about these issues as KPFK does, every day of the year. It is because we accept no corporate sponsorship or advertising of any kind and do not trade our audience’s data, that we can bring you such a diversity of perspectives and insights that you are unlikely to hear anywhere else on your radio dial. But that means that  this station, powered by the people, depends entirely on your donations to stay on air. Please consider donating during this fund drive, whatever you can, great or small, and if you can give more you will be helping others to access this invaluable public service at a time when many cannot contribute. Pledge at any time online at https://kpfk.wedid.it.

In solidarity with the ongoing Palestinian struggle for liberation across historic Palestine and the diaspora, SWANA Region Radio has been posting a series of podcasts this week to respond to the assault on Gaza and the Israeli settler, military and police violence across historic Palestine. The latest ceasefire is a pause in the kinds of spectacular violence that the world notices and promptly forgets when Israel ceases fire and reverts to the constant slow violence of its settler colonial  project. We plan to continue our podcasts and  to offer not just coverage of the latest events and of Israel’s continuing war crimes, violations of international and humanitarian law, and genocidal policies, but especially history and analysis, to help our listeners understand the larger context of the current onslaught on Palestinians,  and offer a breakdown of the principles and tactics of Boycott,  Divestment and Sanctions, as called for by Palestinian Civil Society.

Today, we would like to dedicate this show to the Palestinian families of Sheikh Jarrah in Occupied East Jerusalem, to the young and old in Jerusalem, who, as we speak, continue to fight for their homes and their lives. SWANA collective members recap some of SWANA Region Radio's recent coverage of Israel's recent violent attacks on Palestinians and recall earlier podcasts that highlight the creative power of Palestinian cultural productions, created amidst and despite the long, slow violence of Israeli occupation and militarization. We also review some of the regional press coverage on Palestine and forecast future podcasts.
