In honour of Mother’s Day in the US, I’m pondering what it means to be both a daughter and a mother, and the effect it has on building a business. Becoming an entrepreneur and a coach has required me to dive into the blocks that are stopping me, and one of them is busy work.
It has become apparent that 'busyness' is just one of my mother's habits that I have taken on. Has that been a part of your journey too? Feeling like if you're not busy you're not working and being useful?
Growing up, I lived in a scarcity household, with my parents juggling more than one job to keep our family afloat. So much of their time was consumed by work, and they were constantly busy.
I love my Mum and I am proud to share so many of her character traits, but naturally, some things she has gifted me create limits. This is one of them. I didn't realise how much it affected me until I became a Mum myself. I used to brag about how busy I was and reel off everything I had on my plate. I felt it made me worthy and I brought that into my business, but ultimately this led to burnout.
As a result, I have to ease out of it.
I now teach the opposite of busyness - finding space and room to flourish.
As you lean into the spirituality of business, finding simplicity and ease wherever possible and becoming the person your clients want to be, your journey will become easier.
Join me on my walk in the woods as I chat about all of this, as well as reflect on my own journey as a mother.
Enjoy the listen!
