As we record this, we're approaching the time of year where the clocks go back, meaning we get an extra hour in bed! But the downside is that lots of people struggle to stay motivated with the cold weather and darker evenings.
Here are 4 tips to keep you healthy, positive and motivated:
1- Healthy comfort food: opt for slow cooked meals, lean meats and healthy vegetables, as well as using bone broth for your stock. Strengthen your body’s defences by keeping your gut healthy. Consume foods that have natural probiotics (like yoghurt, kefir, miso soup, cultured vegetables, and sauerkraut), or take a high quality supplement.
2- Keep physically active during the winter to bolster mental health and physical immunity. Shift some activities to indoor ones like Pilates/stretch classes and keep up regular exercise.
3- Supplements: take a multivitamin and add cod liver oil supplements for the winter. These have the added benefit of vitamin A and D (great for months when our access to vitamin D-producing sunshine is limited).
4 -Prioritise-sleep and follow the sun’s lead. As the days get shorter, shift your sleep routine towards going to bed earlier and allow your body more hours to rest and repair.
