Josh Fenton was announced as the sixth Commissioner of The Summit League this past December following a nine-year run leading the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. In his nine seasons with the NCHC, Fenton guided the eight member institutions through a period of tremendous success. Under Fenton's leadership, NCHC member institutions have accomplished the following on the ice over the past eight years:
Thirty-two (32) combined teams in NCAA Tournament;
Thirteen (13) combined teams in NCAA Frozen Four;
Five (5) NCAA National Champions (2016 – 2019, 2022);
Fifty-one (51) American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America honors; and
Two Coach (2017, 2020) of the Year Awards.
Josh was integral in developing partnerships with TV networks to gain national and regional exposure for the NCHC and its member institutions. In 2018-19, Fenton helped the conference distribute 32 games through a national (CBS Sports Network or FOX College Sports) or regional sports network (FOX Sports North).
The mission of the Summit League is to provide its Members access to League competition and NCAA Division I championships that are conducted in an equitable and sportsmanlike
manner in conformance with NCAA and League policies and regulations while sharing similar academic and athletic department principles.
ABOUT THE SUMMIT LEAGUE
Through 41 years of Division I athletics, The Summit League offers 19 championship sports and has a combined enrollment of around 100,000 at nine institutions, including five located in top 60 U.S. metropolitan populations and two land-grant universities. The Summit League has produced 15 NCAA National Champions along with more than 140 All-Americans and 110 Academic All-Americans, including numerous student-athletes competing at the highest professional level in their respective sports. Each year, approximately 3,000 student-athletes continue to raise the bar and help The Summit League reach exceptional success both in competition and in the classroom.
