Censorship has been around since mankind learned how to wield a pen until now, at the golden age of technology. From book burnings in an authoritarian dictatorship, to using emojis to replace a certain word so that your post won't get flagged. Nowadays, in an era of globalization and digitalization, corporations’ presence in the online world, e.g. tech corp, streaming services, etc. are expected to adhere to other countries' censorship. This method of digital surveillance obviously doesn't have a one-size-fits-all solution. However, how do multinational corporations adapt and/or compromise to a country with strict online content policy? And how should we as a consumer navigate a digital world that is rife with restrictions?

In this episode of Podcast: Idea Session, Aisya Ramadhani will express her opinion about how censorship is a double edged sword that could pose a fatal injury to us if not wielded correctly. Furthermore, we will discuss how we, as internet users, can be aware of these limitations and its indirect consequences when navigating the online world, be it towards ourselves or other people.
