Description

Emer grew up in Northern Ireland during what is known as The Troubles (a period of conflict in Northern Ireland that lasted about 30 years from the late 1960s to the 1990s). Like many growing up in the midst of a conflict it coloured her outlook and in her case career choices - she first became a lawyer and later moved into advocacy taking an interest in the area of elders in particular. She shares her experience of midlife especially those things that affect of lot of people at this time such as growing children and aging parents.

This conversation will help trigger long term thinking about how we might plan for our own later lives, as well as thinking about approaching those sometimes difficult conversations with aging parents. Later in our conversation Emer discusses what can practically be done such as family decisions, financial, legal & medical matters. As she says, the sooner we have those conversations the better and easier it will be in the long run.
