●Population Census, or 国勢調査 (Kokusei-Chousa), is now taking place in Japan. Through this census, the government collects data, such as population, for policymaking and community development. Everyone living in Japan is targeted for this census, and it takes place once every five years.
●There are 16 questions in this census asking name, biological sex, age, occupation, nationality, marital status, and the number of people in the household.
Explanations in 29 languages are available on the website called "kokusei2020". You can answer this census on the internet using your smartphone or computer.
●Your ID number for the census is on "国勢調査のお願い (Kokusei-Chousa-no-Onegai)", which is the documents delivered to your house. 1 ID number is given to each household. A household here means a group of people who live together and share living expenses. Family members or partners can form a household, but people who just share a house or live in the same dormitory cannot.
●You can also answer this census by filling the form and sending it by post. The form can be found among the documents delivered to your house.
●Census takers might visit your house. However, some imposters may try to gather your personal information by pretending to be census takers. Please be careful and do not answer any questions regarding your personal information, bank accounts, or credit card numbers.
