In this episode we interview Psychologist, Speaker, Author and Coach Carolyn Bird about the realities of effortless daily self care, specifically, self care that isn’t necessarily luxurious, romantic, trendy or pretty. We define the differences between self comfort and self care, and what it means to nourish ourselves to get through the many responsibilities and expectations we take on in our daily lives. Today’s episode is really about finding ways to access small, attainable strategies to care for ourselves without adding more to our full plates. Carolyn completed her Masters degree in I/O Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree in Developmental Psychobiology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. During her undergraduate studies she worked in several psychology research labs and managed a local wellness center. Realizing her desire to help others lay outside the academic field, she enrolled in the Massage Therapy Certification Program at Natural Touch School of Massage Therapy and The Integral Yoga Teacher Training Program, graduating both in 2007.
Carolyn later went on to complete her coaching certificate in 2016, with a focus on mindset, lifestyle habits, and health. Through the years she has had the honor of working with a diverse population of clients across age, ability, and state of health. In 2019 she opened Cary Integrative Health, a health care collaborative of like-minded practitioners who understand the dynamic and complex nature of treating and maintaining health. She speaks on topics of the importance of self-care, embracing authenticity, boundaries, and failure. In her spare time she enjoys being outdoors with her husband and daughter, finding herself on a horse, baking GF/DF goodies, or with her nose in a book.
